As we wind up to wind down for the end of the year - 2020, what a year it has been! I am working on a video presentation of my final presentation which I will post next.
We met at KPMG and reflected on where we are, what we would do differently with hindsight and what we would do better given less challenges.
Woulda (What I would have done with hindsight of knowing what was to come)
Would have had resources ready for the first lockdown so the students knew how to use and the site was good to go. Had the chromebooks to home ready for every student in Lockdown 1
Coulda (What I would have done had there been less challenges timewise and lockdowns)
Lockdown threw curveballs timewise, didn't really get up and running till after lockdown 2. Coulda worked on it more to have more resources ready. Also could have shared with all my colleagues prior so that they had access for their students during lockdown 2
Shoulda (What I would do differently or better)
Should've involved my school so that I had input from them and they had access during lockdown. Had more confidence in my product!
Looking at the data I have accumulated recently in Term 4, I can see that Reading hasn't suffered as much during lockdown as Maths seemed to. I can assume that one reason being is that most students continued to read in some form while at home, be it for school or pleasure. This meant that they didn't fall back if they weren't engaged in online learning. I have some fantastic reading results. I am looking forward to having a new year with my site ready to go from the start. This meaning that I can use it to enhance my Reading teaching practice from the get go.
We had a day of great discussion. It has been a tumultuous journey with curveballs we could never have had foreseen but what an awesome bunch! We got there in the end and hopefully we will still get to present in Rarotonga in 2021.

Kia ora Sarah. Thanks for sharing your blog. Interesting that maths was affected more than reading. I wonder what we can do to help students progress in maths should we have more lockdowns. It will be exciting to see how your whole team go using the tools you've created. Let me know how you get on!
