#2 Five Whys - examining the problem in detail with a partner

Before we set off on our first gathering we were partnered up with someone else from the group to ask the 5 Whys of each others outlined problem/challenge. I was partnered up with Tanya Munday who had chosen to focus on getting students to use their imagination when writing stories.
The idea is that we each look at our partners problem/challenge and ask them a 'why' question. When they answer that question ou are prompted to ask them another based on their answer. Each time you are analysing your own problem by delving deeper into why we have chosen it, why it is a problem etc.
I found this quite interesting as it is like looking at your chosen problem through someone else's eyes. Each time Tanya asked a question I had to really think about the reasons why I had focused on it specifically and what my thoughts were on why it was a problem, what were the causes, what were the effects? Below is a copy of the 5 whys Tanya asked me about why I thought ESOL learners struggled with inferential comprehension when reading.
