We arrived in beautiful Kuaotunu and gathered at Dorothy Burt's family bach. The weather was amazing and we all got settled in.
The first task was some role play (not my favourite!). We were each given a role to play on a card. There was a doctor, plumber, pizza chef, water carrier, refugee, lawyer, farmer, head of the music dept etc. I got the Plumber card, I earned enough to feed and clothe my family but I was not very clued up on technology.
Matt (Goodwin) then played the role of a Board of Trustees chairman of a fictional Kuaotunu Area School. He had called a meeting of all of the parents (us) and he had ten problems they had identified in the school which they had to submit a report to ERO regarding.
It took a few of these problem to appear before we realised that these were our problems/challenges. It became obvious that some of them were not worded correctly as we demanded answers, specifics and evidence to clarify each one.
This was a great exercise that got us all a little more comfortable with each other and again made us look at our problems through a different lens.
